What’s the natural response after a viral outbreak decimates the population of New York City in game The Division? To grab a bunch of guns and start shooting, of course. You’ll be able to start doing just that on Jan. 28.
The Xbox One beta kicks off on Jan. 28 while the PC and PlayStation 4 testing begins a day later, on Jan. 29. All players get the same chunk of game, starting off at Manhattan’s Chelsea Pier and venturing into the heart of the city as they take on some early story missions and set up a base of operations.

The beta also lets players spend some time in the game’s “Dark Zone,” a player-versus-player portion of the city where teams can go hunting for sweet loot. The catch is that anything you find needs to be extracted by chopper, and it’s possible for other teams — or even your own mates — to bushwack you and steal your stuff while you wait for extraction.
You’ll need to pre-order The Division if you want to guarantee yourself beta access, though Ubisoft is also letting fans sign up on a waitlist for a shot at getting in. The beta is set to run until Jan. 31.
