“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has officially become the highest grossing film of all time in the domestic market, surpassing 760.5 million

As expected, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has officially overtaken Avatar became the highest-grossing film of all time in the domestic market, as of the time of Wednesday morning (local time). It was a record that many people, including producer George Lucas, thought would never be able to break. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has done it in just 20 days.

As of late Tuesday, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has earned 758.2 million and move on to get the necessary number of 760.5 million pass – a record domestic box office of Avatar, on Wednesday morning. Avatar and Star Wars: The Force Awakens only two films exceeded $ 700 million more revenue in North America.

The Force AwakensThere’s still a chance that Star Wars could unseat another ancient Hollywood record — E.T.‘s, for most No. 1 weeks (16) at the box office overall — but that, too, is unlikely. With so much competition in the months ahead and minimal Academy Awards attention, it’s likely that J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi epic will continue to dip. Even Avatar, which was released around the same time as Star Wars and picked up Best Picture and Director nominations, failed to sink the Titanicor E.T. records.
